[00:00:05] Nick: For anyone who's wondering the name “In The RACK”, we're literally sitting inside the rack that's on the main floor of the clinic right now. So if you don't know what our place looks like, our gym looks like, go online, check us down proformptma.com and look at the big.
[00:00:30] PODCAST INTRO: Welcome to “In The RACK” podcast, where we provide you with the practical framework for breaking PRs in all facets of health and wellness. We are just a couple of bros giving you the simple house in a world of complex wants. No filters, no scripts, no rules, just straight talk, talk tune. Now, let's get into the rack with your hosts, Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick.
[00:00:55] Chad: Alright, everyone. Welcome to “In The RACK” podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Chad and I got my co-host Dr. Nick. It's our first episode, we're super excited about it. We just want to use this episode to not only introduce ourselves, but we want to talk about certain topics pertaining to rehab, strength, conditioning, nutrition, and most importantly, overall health and fitness.
[00:01:19] Nick: And along the way, we're hoping to have some guests on here and there, whether they're community members or other business owners in the area. Some of our mentors we've had along the way and even people like Joe Rogan. Just kidding, Joe actually just texted me back said he's not gonna have enough time for this. Hopefully, we'll take a range here. We'll get him on at some point. But anyway, this first episode is really just about given the listeners a little background on our story. The company we work for is ProForm. Chad started a few years ago, and he'll kind of take us through the story on that. Why he opened when he opened all that good stuff?
[00:01:58] Chad: Every day we have patients that are just talking and talking. And we get real deep in these rabbit holes about you guys just start talking about the podcast and maybe we will do it. And two years later, here we are. Now, we're excited about it. Like, Nick said, we opened up about five years ago. Now so 2016, I kind of went through the loophole of working through a couple of insurance based private practices for about seven years or so before we opened up here. And my dream was always to open up a facility that was more performance based, but also drifted more in a different direction and the traditional model just didn't work in my mind. And not to say that it's bad, it's just not the direction that I wanted to go. So our background started there about five years ago. I took on Nick, about four years ago now, which has been great, and we've been just crushing it. We opened up a new facility just over a year ago, where we have squat racks, kettlebells, you name it, everything under the sun, and we're just having a blast with it. So we thought the next step here was to kind of go the podcast route and give the listeners a little bit more about our story, but see if we can educate the community as well as the listeners on other approaches to physical therapy and performance based training that they may not know about, or they already know about, but they want a little bit more about. So that's our story and we're sticking to it.
[00:03:29] Nick: I just got to add to the chat story there. Like he said, he opened five years ago and I came on for. I was actually just coming out of PT school at the time. I was engaged. So my now wife and I were planning the wedding. We're trying to figure out where we're gonna live. She's from Connecticut. I'm from Rhode Island. So we were looking all over the New England. I was ready to take a job in Connecticut actually. And saw Chad's job posting and something about it stuck out. So I looked at the clinic online, such heads picture, I was like, “Man, this guy looks familiar” and come to learn. I couldn't figure it out at the time. But he was working in Rhode Island, years back and I had done observation hours for school at the time. So we did meet. He doesn't remember it. I remember he had a black turf.
[00:04:19] Chad: He knew everything about me. I had no idea anything about him.
[00:04:22] Nick: I just felt something like I had to see this through. So I sent an email and I got back and he said, let's just get you up in the next couple of weeks. I said, “Actually, can I come up today because I kind of need to make this decision now”. And he was very accommodating to me to come up that day, we went out to lunch, and we hit it off and he was writing down pretty much the aspects of the job, the job description, all that kind of stuff on these yellow post it notes. So it took a couple of them and I was able to take those with me they stuck to my finger luckily. I took that home showed my wife, who was my fiancée at the time and she was so scared. And I was like, I love it. I'm in. I'm locked into this job. This guy's super genuine. I know he's good for it. And she goes, you need to get this in writing. I was like, post it note. He wrote it down. I was right there. But anyway, we didn't look back. And needless to say, Alicia was just on the edge of her seat for the first couple of months while I was working there. But it's been great ever since I started and I'm so happy to be part of the growth. And that was really what ultimately excited me about the whole thing was the division down the road. And I knew it wouldn't happen the next day, I knew wouldn't happen the next week. But we're amidst it now. And it's awesome to be a part of an everyday, it's something new, we're having fun. We're trying to do everything. We're in a podcast now. It's going awesome.
[00:05:54] Chad: Well, every time I hear that story, it makes me think how unprofessional and stupid I was back then but it all worked out. Because if I didn't write it on a post it note it probably would have never got you. So I don't regret it at all. I think I'm just gonna do that from now on. Now, we are excited man. And we are pretty much into about everything. We try to keep up to date with pretty much most of the research and we dive down some serious rabbit holes. We love our feet. And we do a lot of work with people barefoot, that's cool. We jumped down a lot of rabbit holes with nutrition, what's good, what's bad, all the myths out there and there's been a lot lately. So we're excited to talk more about that. And we just want to kind of bring light to a lot of the misconceptions out there. And I know there's a lot of podcasts out there like this. But it doesn't hurt to reiterate it. But it also doesn't hurt to get another point of view on the subject for sure.
[00:06:48] Nick: I think to the other thing that really pushed us to having a podcast like, Chad, had mentioned before about we had patients. We would have the all these back and forth. And people would just say you guys are entertaining. And we were like, we're just talking, that was just us. And people had said you guys to start a podcast that was yesterday. Chad brought the stuff last night, here we are. But really, in this last year, we've made a big transition. We're kind of moving away from the traditional insurance based model. And the reason for that is truly so we can continue to optimize our quality of care, and not have to get back into this corner where you're forced to put quantity at the forefront. So we want to maintain quality of care and not have to worry as much about the numbers. And in doing so we know that the quantity is going to have to be kept in check, we can't surpass a certain limit. Because then we're sacrificing our quality. So in order for us to reach more people, especially in our immediate community but also elsewhere, we have relationships with people, and conversations with people in other parts of the country or other parts of the world via Instagram or email. So in order for us to reach more people, this is a great way for us to do it. And it's a way for us to really hear ourselves talk because we love that.
[00:08:10] Chad: We love talking. And just to piggyback on o what, Nick, said about being impulsive with buying. It's probably one of my worst habits I have. I probably should take some tips from Dave Ramsey, but I'm getting there. The last time we did that Nick was like, I think it'd be cool if we had a basketball hoop and I was like, that would be really cool. And two days later, I had to come over.
[00:08:27] Nick: It was that weekend, I was gone that weekend, and he sent a video of the basketball hoop in the clinic and came back on Monday and we were just shooting on our breaks.
[00:08:39] Chad: But with patients, we use it all the time. And people like, you guys actually use that. Actually, we have an 80 year old right now that after he's done with his training, he can't leave till he makes three. So it's awesome. People love it. It's just all about having fun, and just creating a nice, great environment and nice, great culture for our patients and clients and we just love everything about it, man. So kind of go back more on the, on our model, we are very much cash based facility or self-pay facility, however you want to call it. And there's a lot of pros to that, and the con is, “Yes, it does cost a little bit more, but the quality of care is so much better”. We spend a one on one hour time with all of our patients and clients and they get our undivided attention the whole time. And it's been pretty remarkable to see going from seeing patients two to three times a week to only seeing them once a week. And we're getting the same if not better results, because we get to spend that one on one time with them. It just a no brainer. And it just makes us love our job even more, because we can spend the time we can do what we want to do with them and not have to worry about complying with the rules and regulations of these insurance companies were just making it more and more and more ridiculous, but that's another podcast. I'm sure we'll have that on the list. Because I could go on that forever. Put the ‘E’ on that one.
[00:09:59] Nick: Through the Insurance Model, unfortunately, it can be easy to show up and just go through the motions, when you show up to work and you know that people are paying the hard earned money out of out of their own pockets, you're bringing your ‘A’ game every day. So you not only get the patient who's going to be paying their money, so now they're going to be more willing to do the exercise and put in the work. But now you have the therapist or the coach, or whatever role we're playing to bringing the ‘A’ game to where we're bringing our best stuff every single day, day in and day out so we can provide that quality of care. And that's been awesome too, because it's tough when you get out into really any kind of field and you do get to this point where you've been working a lot. You're tired, and you do feel like you're going through the motions. No one wants to feel that way. Everyone wants to love what they're doing. So this has been a great change of pace and transition for us, for both sides, not just not just us, but our patients, clients and everybody in the community.
[00:11:04] Chad: Absolutely. And just to kind of piggyback off that, we know that it's not a great model for everybody. And we do understand that and we're hoping that with this podcast. We can create more awareness as well as help benefit other people that might not be able to take advantage of our model. So if there's any questions that you guys have just let us know, and we're happy to kind of ramble about it. We love to rant. So that was basically our main goal with this podcast, just kind of give you a little idea what we're about, kind of show you where we're going with this, we're definitely going to get a little bit more in depth with a whole bunch of stuff. We're excited. We're making a lot of moves. And we just want to make sure that we can give everybody the best experience possible, that's it. What do you think?
[00:08:27] Nick: For anyone who's wondering the name “In The RACK”, we are literally sitting inside the rack that's on this main floor of the clinic right now. So if you don't know what our place looks like, our gym looks like, go online and check us out proformptma.com. And look at the big row, it's blue and black. We are literally sitting inside. Hopefully at some point, we'll have some video to go along with this on YouTube or something. But we weren't kidding when we said in the rack, we are literally.
[00:12:27] Chad: We'll take some pictures so you guys can actually see, it was not the easiest to set up. We'll come up with a better configuration. But whenever we bring a guest on, just know that you're not going to be sitting. You got her in the way in the rack. Some of you already have, but honestly, there's not enough room for three people in there. So moral of the story is;
“If you ever started a new job, and your boss hands you a post it note with all your job descriptions on it. Don't count them out, man. Give him a chance, take that leap of faith. Take it.”
And we're excited to give you guys all this great knowledge and see if we can ramble back and forth and have fun with it. And enjoy the next few episodes.
